My name is Larry James, I have been self employed in a skilled labor oriented service industry for many years. I have seen a lot of personalities and I have experienced a lot of different people’s reactions to life. I went back to school late in life with a desire to help other people deal with life on life’s terms. I have been happily married for the past 35 years; I have 3 adult children and 2 grandsons. I graduated from the University of Memphis with a Master’s Degree in Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling, I am a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC ). I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Drug & Alcohol Abuse services and a Certification for licensure as a Licensed Alcoholism & Drug Abuse Counselor, I am also an Intern for becoming a Registered Addiction Specialist as well as for a Licensed Professional Counselor.

I think that a lot of people are not aware of the fact that if someone changes the way they think they can change the way they feel. People do not come to counseling because they feel wonderful. I think people just get stuck. There are situations that trigger an emotional response that we have no control over. Some situations evoke a negative response. Do you feel anxious in situations that you feel you have no control over? There is a solution and it’s called Cognitive Behavior therapy. We can discuss your current situations, discover and utilize your strengths and develop lifelong useful tools. It takes practice and yes, there is homework between sessions. Do you really know the difference between being assertive in situations or when you are being aggressive or even passive/aggressive? Would you like to learn how to distinguish your own behaviors? Would you like to recognize and not buy into negative self talk? Would you like to be able to control your anxiety or depression without taking medications? Are you dealing with addition? Are you having communications issues with your significant other? Then call for an appointment with me and we can work on getting a better grip on life.
